What do we do?
We work with local communities to help create opportunities for young people.
We deliver fun and interactive training around the sport of angling. Our programme is especially designed with the help of young people to give the participants more confidence and to demonstrate that there are alternative pathways and better opportunities available to them.
We help to train and develop peer mentors at the same time as encouraging young people to take an active part in how we run the local schemes.
We are happy to work with all young people aged 6 and over and have a proven track-record in delivering social inclusion, improvements in educational achievement and attendance.
AT RISK FROM ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR Male aged 13, nominated by school, he was quiet had low self-esteem and lacked confidence ... At Get Hooked he was supported by a mentor in person and by telephone. He successfully participated in our training modules and made friends with other students on the course. At school his attendance remained high and he became more popular. He often described his fishing sessions in class and even led a discussion for 50 minutes on the subject of the freshwater eel.... now he coaches other young people on the scheme. Our schemes act as a catalyst to bring local agencies together, drawing on the resources of public, private, community and voluntary sectors. We adopt this multi- agency approach to help build the sustainability of local schemes and to build a local bank of partners, volunteers, and supporters.
